"Submission Wrestling" or "Grappling", refers to techniques and maneuvers applied to an opponent with the goal of getting an advantageous position, escape, joint lock or choke.
Pure grappling does not include any striking techniques but rather uses the principals of leverage and the knowledge of anatomy to gain an edge over an opponent in a contest or conflict.
Charlie's Combat Club uses several different grappling styles as our base for our curriculum. Techniques covered in classes include:
- Takedowns & Throws
- Takedown Defense
- Top Positions
- Bottom Positions
- Sweeps & Reversals
- Submission Holds
- Time Holds
- Submission Wrestling Conditioning
- Submission Wrestling Drills
Each submission wrestling class at Charlie's Combat Club will include warm ups, techniques & concepts for the day, drilling and live grappling or situational sparring. Students are encouraged to participate in the live portion of class, but it is not required.
Several times a week, Charlie's Combat Club also offers a "Gi Club Class" where students can practice grappling techniques while wearing a uniform where grabbling of the clothing is permitted.
